Loniten (english)

Minoxidil.

Available in 2.5mg and 5mg tablets.

For adults: taken 2-3 times daily. Patients begin by taking a
small dose. The dose is increased and adjusted gradually in
relation to your blood pressure.

Loniten is a medication that acts directly on the blood vessels. The blood vessels relax, allowing the blood to pass through easier. This results in lower blood pressure.

As with other medications, Loniten may cause side effects, including:

• Retention of water in the body.
• Loniten causes the body to retain salt and water. The accumulation of salt and water is often visible in the form of swollen legs and feet, and some people may develop “bags” under their eyes.
• Dizziness, especially when standing, or when you stand up quickly.
• Increased hair and beard growth.
• Palpitations.

Pregnant patients must not take Loniten.

(Other conditions apply for haemodialysis patients.)

To avoid accumulation of fluid in the body, you will also be prescribed a diuretic when you begin taking Loniten.
To avoid palpitations, we typically prescribe medication that lowers your heart rate.

When starting treatment with Loniten and when your dosage
has been changed, you must weigh yourself twice a week at
the same time of day and on the same scale. If your weight
