Be aware
The plaster cast tightens or chafes.
Your fingers or toes swell or turn bluish.
You experience coldness or tingling in your fingers or toes.
You get severe or increasing pain.
If you get one or more of these symptoms: keep your arm or leg 30-40 cm above heart level while moving your fingers or toes.
Contact the Orthopaedic Surgery Outpatient Clinic if this does not help.
Outside the Orthopaedic surgery clinic's opening hours, you must contact the emergency department. Contact your GP if you have questions about painkillers and more.
Never use a knitting needle or other hard or sharp material to scratch under the plaster bandage. Small wounds can easily occur.
When you get home
The plaster needs about a day to dry and harden. Until then, avoid covering it with a duvet, blanket, or similar.
The faster it dries, the stronger it becomes.
The plaster bandage must not get wet, as it will then become soft and possibly break or crack. When showering, be sure to cover the plaster with a plastic bag, secured with tape or an elastic band.
When you sit, make sure that the plaster does not support a sharp edge, for example a table edge. The plaster can easily break.
Move the joints that are free of the plaster if your wrapped arm or leg swells
Be sure to move the joints that are not in plaster.
Do some bending and stretching exercises many times a day, as it reduces swelling and prevents stiff joints.
