Guide for Users of Hearing Aids

Learning how to listen with a hearing aid takes time and patience. Like glasses, your hearing aid may feel odd to wear at first.

Allow yourself up to 3 months to get used to it. It is important to be realistic, and not to expect perfect hearing in all listening situations.

If the earplug bothers you, feel free to contact Høreklinikken and get an appointment with our earplug technician.

When you have tested the hearing aid for 1 month, you may contact us if your hearing aid needs adjusting.

If we have not heard form you within 2 months, we assume that you are content with your hearing aid; and after 3 months, we will conclude your treatment course.

From this point onwards, you may contact your local hearing educator.

When you receive your hearing aid, you have a 2-months trial period. This means, that you may return your hearing aid along with any extra equipment within this period.

Upon returning your hearing aid, you are free to apply for a new hearing aid within the public system or to buy one from a private provider with a public subsidy.

It is important that you return your hearing aid within 2 months. Explaining the staff at Høreklinikken that you intend to return your hearing aid is not enough. 

If your aid is not returned within 2 months, you will not be eligible for a new hearing aid with a public subsidy for the next 4 years.

Remember every day:

• Take off our hearing aid while sleeping. Turn it off and open the battery drawer completely.
• Wipe off your hearing aid and the earplug with a dry cloth.
• Keep spare batteries in reserve.

Remember every week:

• Change batteries as needed (used batteries are discarded as environmentally hazardous).
• Check for earwax in filters, earplug, tips, domes and vents.
• If there are NO electronics in the earplug, it is cleanes in soap water.

Remember when needed:

• Remove earplug/tip/dome before washing.
• Change tip/dome/filter or plastic tube as shown by your audiology assistant.
• Ask your otolaryngologist or general practitioner to check for earwax to avoid unwanted sounds or sound reduction.

If your hearing aid needs repair, you will need to send it to the manufacturing company.

The address is in your user manual (if you have a molded earplug, send it along with your aid).

Be sure to wrap your hearing aid sufficiently and attach a description of the problem. Finally remember to state your name, address and social security number for return purposes.

If you lose your hearing aid, please contact your local hearing educator or the provider who handed out your hearing aid.
